postheadericon Last Week of the YEAR!

Although funny, this is how some people view “fitness.”

___________________________________________________

Alright everyone! One more week until those “New Years Resolutions” are implemented and in full effect! This is officially the last week of 2010 and it is time to turn the page and start a new chapter in our lives. Maybe you are wanting to start a workout regimen or maybe you are ready for the next step? Either way, the time is NOW! I was looking at the board in the gym where you have written down some goals for 2011 and I have to say, they are all within reach! Most of them within the next 3 months! All you have to do is put forth the effort and it can be done!

Remember that next week we will start the 9am and the 4pm WOD group in order to make more room in all of the groups. Also, we are in the process of getting everyone and their PR’s in the computer so we can keep up with them better. Please be sure to sign in and write your PR’s on the respective board in the gym.

postheadericon Out With The Old…

“Do you know the Muffin Man?”

To all of the World Camp CrossFit family, I wish you and yours a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! It has been an absolute honor to be able to work around such amazing people. Thank you for allowing me to do what it is I love to do for a living. I was blown away by the “Testimonials Book” that I received at the Christmas Party. It was a joy to read all of the inserts, those that I have had the privilege of reading before and those that I was reading for the first time. Although in your writings you attest that your achievements were a sole product of World Camp, I beg to differ… You see, this gym is hollow shell of Drywall filled will only rubber, wood and metal. It has no magical powers or mysterious transformation abilities on it’s own. It is YOU that makes this little gym work! It is YOU that allows World Camp CrossFit to exist! Finally, it is YOU that have put forth all of the hard work to get you where you are today! For that I commend you… I am glad that this place can be used as a vessel to get you from that deconditioned state to the place you are now. As a new year approaches, my wish for you is to continue to grow and get better; to achieve the goals that you have set for yourself and never look back. There will be a few changes in the next couple of weeks. We will be adding a much needed 9am and a 4pm regular WOD group to accommodate the growth of the community. I believe that doing this will keep the coaching pure and up to standard, as they have been set from the beginning. I have often said that if the groups got too big and we as a staff could not provide the desired level of coaching, I would lock the doors and we would cease to allow for new memberships. I still believe this to be true, thus the reason for the added class times. I would like to say “Thank You” to the coaching staff once again for all of the hard work that they put in day in and day out. Without Cristy, Evan, Shelby, Sam, Bill and Rio none of this could be possible! As we say “goodbye” to 2010 and “hello” to 2011, I urge you to always do your best and and be “Better Than Yesterday…”

postheadericon Big Things Poppin!

We had some BIG PR’s the other night on the Dead Lift!  World Camp is now home to 4 women who are in the 300lb club for Dead Lifts. Cristy, Brandi, Jessica and Rio all have Dead Lifts in the 300′s! Above is a video of Bill reaching the 600lb mark. Cristy PR’d at 350lbs also! Great job everyone! Keep up the hard work!

Remember that the Christmas party is this Friday at 7pm therefore, there will be no 6pm group WOD that day. We are still in need of a couple of grills and people with the skills to man them for the occasion. The Saturday after, which is the 18th< we will be hosting a Christmas party for some under privileged youth from the Albany area. If you would like to contribute or be a part of this, please get the information from the gym.

postheadericon Jingle Bell Jog

One good looking group!

The annual “Jingle Bell Jog” was this past weekend and as always the turnout was tremendous! World Camp CrossFit was represented by about 30 or so of it’s members participating in either the 5k or 10k road race. For most or our individuals, this was the first time they had participated in anything like this. At World Camp, we train for increased GPP (General Physical Preparedness), not to run road races. With that being said, our members collectively received more medals than any other group or organization. 13 medals went home with World Camp members! Not bad for a bunch of people who don’t run. Next year, I would like to see the race committee incorporate a lifting event every 800 meters, wouldn’t that be something? Thank you again for all of the hard work that you all put in, day in and day out. Below you will find a e-mail written by Tommy Sullivan, Vice President and Executive Director of Pheobe.

Kris, I was very impressed with the turnout of WCF members and their results. To the World Camp participants in the Jingle Bell Jog, awesome job!  Not only did you represent World Camp with a great turnout, but you represented on the leader board, as well.  A true testament to the hard work and sweat put in everyday.  it was an amazing sight to see all the Crossfit shirts coming across the finish line.  World Camp members were cheering each other on and that unparalleled support demonstrates the real strength of what our gym is truly about.   The best support, and one in which each of you should take great pride, is how you helped the smallest among us.  By simply signing up for the Jingle Bell Jog, you supported our local Children’s Miracle Network which helps countless children in our community each and every day.  As you crossed the finish line breathing fast for air, a baby the size of your hand was probably in the NICU breathing as hard clinging to life with equipment that CMN helped to fund.  Those remarkable kids are the real winners and, for that, Phoebe and the many children we serve thank you for participating.

-Tommy Sullivan
