postheadericon Day 2

Today is day 2 of the 2011 Reebok CrossFit Games and the stakes have been raised! Only the top 6 teams after todays events will go on to compete on Sunday for the shot at the title of “Worlds Fittest Gym!” Right now, after day 1, World Camp CrossFit sits at 23rd in the world! Although this is a tremendous accomplishment in itself, we will need to make up ground today in order to move on. “Thank you”  to everyone that made the trip out to California and to everyone back home for all the support!

postheadericon Pre-game Play Time

We would like to say a huge “THANK YOU” to Marc Sobremesana and CrossFit Code 3 for allowing us to drop in and play around for a while. It never ceases to amaze me, how supportive the CrossFit community is from one gym to another.

Although the Games are right around the corner, the team had a chance to head over to Venice Beach for a bit to see some of the sights here in California. For those know a little about the sport of Body Building, Venice Beach is it’s birthplace. “Muscle Beach” as it is called, has a full on gym outside along with pull up bars, parallel bars and rings built in the sand. It was good to step away from all of the seriousness and have some “play time.”

postheadericon Destiny…

I can remember it as if it was yesterday… It was July 5th, 2008, and I was not quite a week into being out on my own as a trainer and opening World Camp Fitness in the Albany area. I had just recently turned in my resignation to the gym I once managed and had to come back on this day to turn in all of the shirts and uniforms I had collected over the years of employment. The words still resound in my head, “I will do whatever it takes to ensure that you don’t make a dime,” came from the mouth of the gym owner. I sat there in a moment of disbelief as if I expected anything less or more for that matter. The idea that someone would or could control my destiny, other than myself, was mind blowing to say the least. It took only a second for those words to send my psyche into an uproar. Many thoughts raced through my mind, “what did I do to deserve this? What am I thinking?” and then the final, “who does this MF’er think he is?” I could have left that day and succumbed to the thought that I shouldn’t even try for it would all be for nothing, but that was not the case. Why would I let someone else decide how my story was going to be written, let alone end? I believe that we are in charge of our own destiny, and for that reason, I write this today.

Today, the WCCF Affiliate team is on it’s way to Carson, California to compete on the national stage at the 2011 Reebok CrossFit Games! We went into the Regionals in the 18th spot and left sitting in 3rd, thus sealing our spot at The Home Depot Center. Who would have thought a team sitting in 18th going into a Regional Competition against the top 30 teams across Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina and Florida, would come out with a bid to the games? We would, that’s who! There were too many times that people counted us out of that competition. Surely it would go to one of the bigger gyms from a bigger city, not a little gym from a place called Albany, Georgia… What would have happened if we would have let others decide our fate? Well, I wouldn’t be on this airplane typing this to keep my mind off of the fact that we are 30,000 feet above the ground! That however, is a small price to pay for having this opportunity. No one knows what the future holds for World Camp CrossFit and the Affiliate team of 2011, however, I can assure you that there will be nothing left to chance and our story will be self written. I would like to say “thank you” for all of the support that we have received from our community and from those who know what it took for us to be in this position. I would also like to express the same gratitude to everyone and anyone that has ever counted us out or done their part to clip our wings. It is people like you that continue to ensure that we will settle for nothing…

postheadericon California Recap

“California Love” this past weekend was a huge success! With just a little over a week of planning, 18 4 person teams made their way to Albany to battle it out through 3 workouts. This event was a “team” competition in every sense of the term. All team mate were to participate and carry their own weight in each event, no one had it easy! I would like to say a huge and humble “thank you” to everyone who played a part in making “California Love” an event to remember! Judges, Volunteers, Coaches and Athletes; thank you again!

I will have all video up soon, but in the meantime, here is some footage of WOD #1 below!
