Rio L.

WCCF would like to say a huge “ATTA GIRL!” to Rio Landa for her first place finish at the South Atlanta Throwdown! It doesn’t seem that long ago that this girl walked into the door of World Camp CrossFit, just having a baby and using running as her only form of exercise. Now look her, coming off of a 13th place finish in 4 states at the Southeast Regional and bringing home a first place trophy in an event that has been sold out for weeks! Great job Rio, we are all very proud of you!

 Here is a brief overview of what can be expected on June 2nd! We will go into more detail of the events when you all get here.

Alright guys! The registration is officially closed for the TEAM THROWDOWN next weekend! We put the cap at 30 teams and number 30 signed up this morning at 7am. If you missed out this time, please e-mail us and we will get you on the list first to register for the official “South Georgia THROWDOWN” that will be held in October.

World Camp would like to say a “GREAT JOB” to Matt, Billy, Lori, Frances and Jim for their great performances this weekend in Montgomery, Ala. at the #4# competition! We are all very proud of your accomplishments as athletes and individuals of our community here! Keep up the good, hard work guys and gals!

So, the other night Randy, pictured above, just shows up to the gym at 7pm. This is not his usual workout time, so I knew something was up… He paced around for a few minutes and then walks by and says, “I’m doing 30 Muscle Ups for time!” He had previously done this particular workout 2 weeks ago and got a time of 5:23. Just as the 7pm class was winding down, Randy chalked up and headed over to the rings. Doing the first 10 unbroken, he pounded through the other 20 to score a 4:57!!! Great job Randy! Keep up the good hard work brother!

Remember the TEAM THROWDOWN is June 2nd! There will only be 30 teams allowed in so reserve your spot today! Each team can be made up of any combination, 2 guys, 2 girls, 1 guy, 3 girls, etc… The choice is yours! We will be revealing workouts, movement standards and sponsors shortly!

The Muddy WOD Broads

Last weekend while the Affiliate team was competing at Regionals in West Palm Beach Florida, there was another team from World Camp CrossFit competing up in North Georgia! The “Muddy WOD Broads” took to the field together in the Dirty Girl Mud Race 2012! Don’t let their beauty fool you guys, these girls are STRONG!!! Great job to Tina, Sarah, Cindy, Syndee, Deanna, Jolie, Tracy, Kerry and Jennifer for the awesome job! WCCF is very proud of you ladies!

Faith, Randy & Chip

In other great WCCF news, Faith, Randy and Chip completed a 50k Trail Run. That’s 32.5 miles people!!! The run consisted of some of the roughest terrain imaginable and get this, there was a ringer that they sent out known as a “Sweeper!” The Sweeper is an experienced runner that takes off after everyone has left, and if he catches you, YOU’RE OUT! “It was one of the hardest things I have ever done, but it taught me that I could accomplish anything, and I would do it again!” Faith Holcomb said… This is a true testament to the work ethic and the endurance of these three. Great job guys! We are very proud of you all!!!

This year’s Southeast Regional was held in West Palm Beach, Florida and was comprised of the best athletes in Georgia, Florida, Alabama and South Carolina. As most of you know, this is an event that you had to qualify for, not just show up with an entry fee. WCCF as a team went in seeded 19th in the Southeast and continued to be a force throughout the competition. Our Affiliate team’s roster this year was filled by Chris Harris, Merritt Logan, Sam Widman, Marlin Jones, Devin Griffin and Wendy Butler. I could not have been more proud of our gym, as this was our 3rd Regional showing in that many years. These athletes showed great work ethic and determination as they plowed their way through the workouts of the weekend. In typical World Camp fashion, our athletes never quit or got down, even when their backs were up against the wall. For those that went and cheered in person to the ones that had to stay and do so from the home front, you should all be so proud of your athletes and that you call WCCF “home.”

This year we had two individuals competing in the Southeast Regional as well. Kirk Gibson and Rio Landa both had a great showing and are quickly making a name for themselves in the “Sport of Fitness.” The 19 year old Kirk Gibson was the youngest individual to qualify for the competition however, showed very adult like poise as he competed against more seasoned athletes. Finishing in the top 11 in 3 of the grueling workouts, Kirk managed to place in the top 20 out of the four states that make up our Region! Rio Landa stayed impressively consistent throughout the entire weekend, battling through every workout as if it was just another day at the gym. Rio finished the weekend just as strong as she started, earning her a 13th place finish out of the 60 that were qualified to participate. A huge “THANK YOU” and a “GREAT JOB” to all that participated in the Open in order to get a team to regionals and the same to those who competed!
