WCCF… “Forging Elite Cyclist?”
Off road Assault on Mt. Mitchell or also known as ORAMM is a 63 mile mtb bike race with 11,000 of vertical gain. Since this is my 3rd attempt, I was coming into the event with goals of finishing around 5:10 mins which is approx. 13 mins faster than my previous time. So to finish in 4:58, I would have to say that I am very pleased with my result.
This year saw 3 of the historical top finisher toe the line. Jeremiah Bishop, Cannondale Factory Racing Team, Thomas Turner, Jamis Factory racing team and Sam Koerber who is a local Asheville, NC resident that was raced Pro on an off for several years. Not to mention the other jokers like myself that are just out there for a good time.
The previous course record was 4:50, which was crushed this year by Jeremiah Bishop at 4:33 with Thomas Turner just a few mins behind at 4:37. Even though I am 20 mins off the win time, I am still pleased with the fact that my overall time increased by approx 25 mins.
I contribute this to a couple of things. My Orba Alma 29er mtb bike which weighs in around 22lbs, thanks Breakaway Bikes. My wife, Amy, who helps keep my diet in check and teaches awesome Vinyasa and Power Yoga classes that help me stay flexible and recovered. WilPower Massage Therapy for keeping my loose and recovered. AND World Camp Crossfit for providing me with the strength, motivation and power.
I look forward to future workouts with everyone at World Camp. It is the energy after that 3-2-1 that has given me that extra little boost this summer. I appreciate each an everyone of you that have welcomed Amy and I into such a positive scene. Thank you, Josh

For those of you that just got overly excited about these new additions to our facility, I regret to inform you that it’s not happening… Too many times in gyms across the nation, people fall victim to the “latest fad.” We call it the “shiny object syndrome” here. A gym or fitness facility will realize that they are losing members because of their stagnate training and lack of luster and concern for the membership itself. This is when they throw a new toy in the box and claim that this toy is indeed the path to true fitness. What they are finding is that “Johnny Member” is a little smarter than they imagined. He has realized that just last month this same gym incorporated a class that promised to do the same thing but with a totally different format and theme. “That didn’t work for increasing membership sales, so let’s try something else,” is the thought process here.
One thing that you would have to say about our community here at WCCF is we do what we do and believe whole heartedly in it. You will not see cables extended from a wall, a bunch of machines that basically do the movements for you or guys in tights leading what appears to be the cast of GLEE in a choreographed ensemble. I will say that as long you are doing something, it can and will be beneficial to you as opposed to just sitting around. I am not knocking other methods of training at all. I believe that there is a need for machines to do accessory work on lagging muscles to keep them in check, but I wouldn’t suggest making them a primary tool. I am not saying that you will like what we do here, but what you see is what you get. We believe that what we do IS the path to fitness and an over all healthy lifestyle and we’re not changing until we are made to see otherwise. We are hard headed, we are stubborn, we are WORLD CAMP CROSSFIT!
We don’t have the agility of gymnasts, the power of a weightlifter, or the endurance of a marathoner, but we have more agility, power, and endurance than any gymnast, weightlifter or marathoner. We do your stuff almost as good as you, you can’t do our stuff at all and we do stuff neither of us does way better than you can. – Greg Glassman
