“I Heard That Place is aCult”
by: Billy Goodson
I got it again yesterday. “So and so said that place was a cult”. I always laugh and say “yeah, but it’s a good one”. Maybe not Coach’s preference for an answer but what came out, none the less… I have reflected on it over night and have come up with a few ideas as to where the “cult” deal originates.
First option would be people that have tried WCCF and decided it wasn’t for them. Kris told me when I walked in the door, “it’s not for everyone”. That is true. It takes a dedicated person. It’s the people that are tired of going to the gym just to say they go to the gym. When you first come to WCCF it can be intimidating, if you let it. You see people working insanely hard. If you have an open mind you also notice that everyone is very friendly, and willing to help you in any way they can. That is when they’re not working like madmen/women. I guess for the person who walks in the door thinking it’s like every other gym they have been to, they may try to rationalize what makes the people at WCCF drive the way they do, and how a group of “gym members” can be family. It must be a cult.
Second would be members of other gyms. AS we all have friends that go to other gyms, they see our pictures and how we workout. What would drive someone to work that hard, every day? And it’s a gym, not a social club, right? It seems WCCF’ers are either working out like their hair is on fire in total anguish, or grouped up smiling…. Are they having fun?? When a friend calls to do something, and rather than grasp the excuse to bail on the workout you say, “can’t go until after I hit the gym”. What must they think? I mean for the most part they MAKE themselves go while we are arranging our schedules, getting up at 5 AM, or whatever else it take to make sure WE DON’T miss a day. Now I don’t want this to come off as dissing friends and others that frequent other gyms, I’m simply relaying what I hear. I hear fairly often “man there’s no way I’m doing that!, Ya’ll run around outside? Flip tractor tires? Not me”. It’s pretty simple to me. Kris must be putting something in the water. …Or it’s a cult.
Lastly, maybe other trainers? I mean how in the world does WCCF get these people to be as dedicated as they are? Not only does he work them harder than other gyms, but they’re chomping at the bit for more every day. You would think this group would be small, and neutral, but it’s growing like wild fire. How? I mean this is the way elite athletes work out, not housewives, old men, and kids….what makes them do THAT, day after day?
Easy, he has mind control over them. Maybe he’s promised them immortality?
Finally, I’d like to say this post is of my own feeble mind, and in no way reflects the opinion of WCCF. I’m just amused every time I hear the “cult” thing. Somewhere, someone is making excuses for themselves. Just saying…

I care not what others think of what I do, but I care very much about what I think of what I do! That is character!
